See marvelous artifacts that can only be found at Kaduna national museum and monument.

by Rebecca/December 05 01:57 PM Last updated on Opposite the Emir of Zazzau's palace along Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna, is the National Museum, one of the many historical monuments the city inherited for being the capital of the defunct Northern Region. Established in 1975, the museum had witnessed some remarkable improvements in the last few years. Now, the old dilapidated building has been pulled down and a new one is being built, but the progress of work is slow. One interesting thing about this museum is its live craft feature, which allows visitors to watch local craftspeople and artisans working in real-time. Crafts, archaeology, and ethnography are central to the museum?s existence. It was established in 1975 and also contains artifacts from the Nok and Igbo-Ukwu cultures. Have you seen ethnographic and archaeological artifacts in their finest collections? If you?d like to, you should visit the Kaduna National Museum and Monument. Even the Nok terracotta we once spoke of is here too, as well as some artifacts and pictures from the past. There is a lot to learn here. The museum has in its collections both Archaeological and Ethnographic materials ranging from terracotta figurines of humans and animals from the famous Nok culture area dated to about 2,500 years ago, as well as artworks and crafts of both prehistoric and contemporary societies. Also found in the museum are building structures constructed with the Hausa traditional architecture of mud and thatch. The museum is a fascinating building recommended to Tourists. The National Museum in Kaduna used to be a beehive of activities, attracting visitors from far and near, including foreigners. by Rebecca/December 05 12:55 PM Last updated on Kamuku National Park is located in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State of Nigeria. It is situated in the north-central part of Nigeria and it is the closest unit Park Headquarters, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Kamuku shares the same ecosystem and boundary with the luxuriant Kwiambana Game Reserve in Zamfara State, separated only by a natural boundary, the River Mariga. The Park has rich, close canopy vegetation of Savannah woodland type with dominant species of Isoberlina, Afzelia, Daniellia, Detarium, Raphia, etc and a few lily plant species. Tall, tough grass cover populates the marshy areas of the Park, especially during the rainy season. For example, Andropogon gayanus, Pennisetum purpureum, etc are the most common grasses found here. Kamuku National Park has an enviable biodiversity profile. It supports about 19 species of mammals including elephants (a major ecotourism attraction for visitors to the Park). However, Western hartebeest seems to be the most ubiquitous animal species that can easily be sighted with a little patience. List of Animals in the Park Animals found in the Park are: Elephant, Roan antelope, Western Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Reedbuck, Grimm?s Duicker, Red-flanked Duiker, Oribi Patas Monkey, Green Monkey (tantalus), Baboon, Warthog, a variety of birds, insects, reptiles, rodents, etc. bird watchers would easily observe rich offering of various birds at any given time. Mountain climbing is the most desirable at Kangoro hill

by Rebecca/December 05 11:08 AM Last updated on The Kagoro Hills, known as Afan Ae?gworok among the natives, is the towering elevation above the Kagoro town near Kafanchan in the Southern Kaduna sub-region of Northern Nigeria. The Kagoro Afan National Festival derives its name from the hill (Afan). The Kagoro Hills is situated at an altitude of about 1,246 meters above sea level and its scene is one of the most picturesque natural attractions in Kaduna State. It forms a range with big trees and rocky places at the base. The hill has significantly influenced the weather of the area making the area to enjoy a nice clement climate similar to what is obtainable in the Jos and the Mambila Plateaus. There is also heavy rainfall with mild fresh humid wind during the rainy season. The Kagoro hills ranges cover an unbelievably large expanse of plains stretching as far as the eyes can see. Natives say that these plains stretch as far as Jos in neighboring Plateau State and parts of Bauchi State. As the climb commences, the guides lead the adventure from the foot of the hill, one notice forged covert pathways along and around cliffs and crevices, nooks and crannies, streams and brooks all the way to the summit. With the native guides, however, a tourist is delighted on every turn as the wonders of the hill are unveiled. Besides the curves intersected by amazing rock formations, there are numerous freshwater springs running the length and breathe of the hill. At 1,246 meters above sea level, you?ll have to hike for a few hours to get to the top. But, the climb and the view once you get there are worth it. You must bring?binoculars?with you. One of the things that make these hills such a fascinating destination is the stories about heroes and supernatural beings that surround them. Because it is a place of legend, it?s customary for tourists to ask for the consent of the Kagoro Chief before ascending the hill. Not only that he will offer prayers for safe passage, but he can also give you valuable advice about how to protect yourself from harmful animals and insects. For example, according to legend, the hills are the home of a sacred bee colony, so tourists are advised not to wear perfume since the smell could attract the bees. You will also encounter a ?palm wine bar? where you can stop for a few minutes and refresh yourself before continuing the climb. Make sure to hire a guide so that he can show you all the ?secrets? the hills have to offer. Although most of them speak English, you could?work with a tutor before your departure and learn the basics of their native tongue. That way, it will be easier to understand the magnificent stories that surround these sacred hills. The hills are also excellent for rock climbing, mountaineering, safari exploration, and quiet picnics. Get the best of history at the ancient Nok settlement.

by Rebecca/December 05 09:09 AM Last updated on Nok village is located in Kaduna State of central Nigeria, 160 kilometers northeast of Baro. NOK is the name of a town in Jabba Local Government Area, Kaduna State. Nok became famous because of the discovery of the terracotta head.  The Nok civilization was discovered in 1928 due to tin mining that was happening in the area and earned its name due to the Nok civilization that used to inhabit the area from around 500 BC. Mysteriously the people of the village vanished in about 200 AD. These people were known for their extremely advanced social system and were the earliest producers of life-sized Terracotta in the Sub-Sahara. Hugely historical, archeologists have found human skeletons, stone tools and rock paintings around this area, not to mention the main act. The inhabitants of what is now called Nok Village were known to make some of the oldest and culturally intriguing sculptures found in Africa. This led to discoveries that the ancient culture of Nok has been around for some 2500 years. When strolling through the village your senses will be delighted to rediscover an amazing group of people culturally and socially. Not much is known about the purposes of these popular sculptures but some theories have suggested they were used as charms to prevent crop failure, illness, and infertility. You?ll really feel as if you?ve had the best history lesson of your life. Weapons of war, terra cotta heads of man and animals are abundant as you realize your dream is actually a reality.
