Tonga

The Kingdom of Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom within the South Pacific Ocean consisting of about 170 islands. Many of the islands are uninhabited. It has its capital city in Nuku'alofa. It has a tropical climate and it is known for its warm people and weather. The coconut palm is the most common plant in the country. It is used for a lot of things including making houses, and the nuts are used for drinks and food.

Tonga has a tropical climate and is warm all year round. The hot season from December to April, high humidity from January to March and the cool season from June to August.

Over 98% of the inhabitants of Tonga are Polynesian. The rest are mixed Tongans and Europeans. The official language is Tongan but English is widely spoken in the main towns. The official religion of Tonga is Christianity. The culture of the Tongans has evolved over the centuries with the coming of the British and other European and Western traders. The traditional dress of the Tongans is called 'Ta'ovala'. They are woven waist mats and are commonly worn by the natives. Bring light clothes with you as you prepare to visit Tonga because the weather is warm year round.

The staple foods of Tonga are fish, pork, chicken, and coconuts. Yams, sweet potatoes, and taro are grown and eaten in the country.

Tonga is a tropical paradise with so many interesting sights. Here are some of the best places to visit in Tonga:
  • Mapu'a 'a Vaea Blowholes: Near the village of Houma lie hundreds of blowholes which shoot water 30 meters into the air. Visiting this place is one of the best things to do in Tonga.
  • Vava'u: It is one of Tonga's popular destinations offering amazing wildlife encounter. Plan your trip between July and October to swim with humpback whales. You can also arrange a yacht trip to explore caves, visit scenic beaches, and snorkel.
  • Ha'atafu Beach: It is one of Tonga's most beautiful beaches and getting there is inexpensive. Whether you want to enjoy the warm waters or relax in the sun, Ha'atafu is a great option.
  • Nuku'alofai: It is Tonga's capital city and it's also a far cry from big cities like New York. Wander the streets, stroll past the Royal Palace and eat local food in restaurants.

On Sundays, almost everything in the city shuts down and the locals spend time with family or visit churches which leaves the streets deserted. It is a rare experience yet charming.
There are hotels all around Tonga so finding accommodation won't be a problem.
