About University of Benin The University of Benin fondly called ‘UNIBEN’ was founded primarily as an Institute of Technology in 1970 but was accorded the status of a full-fledged University by National Universities Commission (NUC) on 1st July 1971. It was one of the first few Universities operated by the Federal Government as the Federal Government on the request of the State Government took over the affairs of the institution on 1st April 1975.   UNIBEN has a vision to “establish a model institution of higher learning which ranks among the best in the world and responsive to the creative and innovative abilities of the Nigerian people".
