About Igbinedion University

Established as the first Private University in the Country in 1999, by Sir Gabriel Igbinedion CFR, the University fondly called IUO is located in Okada, Edo State. Offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission and other relevant professional bodies, the University has an enrolment of over 5,000 students across its seven colleges. IUO has recorded quite a number of notable achievements including being the first university to produce medical doctors in Sub-Saharan Africa and providing the first private university graduate to bag a first class at the Nigerian Law School in 2006. The University also has established links with International bodies and Universities; One of such is its link to the University of Westminster (UK) in the areas of staff development, diplomatic structures and ICT. With an increased number of membership affiliations with high ranking University bodies, IUO certainly ranks conveniently as one of the most prominent universities in the country.

Igbinedion University Facilities

Facilities at the University include; lecture halls, academic and college buildings, academic blocks, halls of residence for students, science laboratories, engineering workshops and labs, a state of the art library, which is also an e-library containing an online repository for journals and research theses, standard sporting facilities such as football pitch, lawn tennis, table tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts, a guest house, medical healthcare facilities, among others.

IUO Admission Requirements

The University offers admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across its 7 colleges. Admission requirements across these levels differ considerably. Here are some of them:

Admission Requirements For Undergraduates

100 level students:

• Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) credit passes in SSCE/GCE O’LEVEL/NECO/NABTEB or equivalents at no more than two (2) sittings obtained in subjects relevant to the proposed field of study. The 5 credits must compulsorily be in Mathematics, English and 3 other related subjects.

200 level students (Direct- entry):

In addition to having the above requirements, you may also be required to;  

• Have a minimum of two (2) A level passes or other equivalents in subjects related to the proposed field of study.

• A bachelor degree in relevant discipline is also acceptable.

• Have a minimum of five O’level credit passes in English and Maths and other related subjects.

In addition to all these, candidates must also show evidence of JAMB application.

Admission Requirements For Postgraduates

At the University, there are relatable postgraduate programmes, across its 7 colleges. As a prospective candidate seeking admission in any of the programmes offered, here are some of the requirements.

• A minimum of five (5) O’level passes in English, Mathematics and any other three.

• A bachelor’s degree from the University, or one recognized by the school with a minimum of a second class lower division for masters, third class division for a postgraduate diploma and an average point of no less than 50% for PhD students.

• Graduate certificate with verifiable grades and required grade point average.

• Academic transcript from University attended.

• NYSC discharge certificate.
