[VIDEO] Zimbabwe's Ugliest Man Loses Title

The following occurred between the hours of 00:01hrs and 23:59hrs on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Events occurred in real time.

An audience packed out the hall of a nightclub in Harare, Zimbabwe to witness no fewer than 36 men compete to see who would emerge as Zimbabwe's ugliest man and claim the $500 USD prize. The duel was anything but pretty.

I promise I am not making this up.

I know, right? Outlandish stuff.

The Plot

So, it all came down to Mison Sere baring his non-existent teeth to knock off reigning champion, William Masvinu and claim the prize. Masvinu had kept the title since winning it for the first time in 2012 when only 5 men entered for the contest.

The Plot Thickens

Sere's win was greeted with controversy though and a bit of a scuffle soon ensued, as there were those of the opinion that he only won on grounds of his disability (missing set of front teeth) and not his "natural ugliness".

Some members of the audience railed at the judges, stating that Sere was too handsome. That must have hurt his feelings.

One of the judges, Abigail Mataranyika, had this to say after the event: "Sere made tremendous efforts to enhance his ugliness by pulling facial stunts. Masvinu thought he's so ugly and didn't need to try hard and that cost him the crown."

Uh... what?

David Machowa, the organizer of the event, told reporters that he started the event to eliminate the stigma of ugliness. "Looks are God-given. We should all be proud of who we are" he said.

Apparently, the plan is working out swimmingly well. The Ugliest man is carting away with $500 USD which, in Zimbabwe, amounts to, lets just say, a whole lot.
