Murtala Muhammed International Airport is an international airport serving Ikeja, Lekki and Lagos city in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is located in Ikeja, Lagos State. Formerly known as Lagos International Airport, it was renamed in 1970 after a former military ruler of Nigeria, Murtala Muhammed. It was built between 1935 and 1945, during the second world war.
The construction of the new international terminal at the airport led to an increase in passenger traffic. In 2012, the airport recorded a passenger traffic of 5,644,572 passengers, however the numbers rose to 7,261,178 in 2013 and dropped to 7,164,169 in 2015.
