Best Places For School Excursions in Nigeria

Traveling is a vital part of learning. Much like laboratory experiments test theoretical concepts, excursions improve upon the general learning of pupils in ways a lecture or a book never could.

Many school teachers usually have a couple of excursions planned out over the course of an academic year and some of them often pull through. Others, for various reasons, among which not knowing how to prepare for an excursion is one, end up not going the distance.

Every location or monument has a unique experience and lesson it bequeaths on its visitors and, depending on the nature of the excursion you have planned, the following places are some of the best places to visit for excursions:

1. The Benin City National Museum

The Benin City National Museum is brimming with ancient history. Here you will find an array of artifacts, bronze works and relics that give deep insight into the history of the Benin Kingdom and Nigeria.

2. The Nationa War Musuem, Umuahia

National War Museum

The National War Museum, Umuahia serves as a repository of the various relics, air crafts and devices from the blistering civil war that nearly divided the country in the late 1960s. Today, it stands as a monument of that history that educates future generations on the events that transpired during the civil war.

3. The Ikogosi Warm Springs

The Ikogosi Warm Springs is at Ikogosi, a town in Ekiti State, Nigeria. It is a natural wonder that has a flowing cold spring which meets another warm spring at a confluence point. Lots of tourists troop here every year to come and witness this amazing occurrence. According to research the warm spring has been suggested to have a temperature of about 70 degrees Centigrade at the source and 37 degree Centigrade at the confluence point.

There is the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in the area where the entire excursion crew can lodge and enjoy an enthralling experience altogether.

4. Kainji Dam

Kainji Dam

Kainji dam, built across the River Niger, is by far Nigeria's most famous dam. It was completed in 1968 and is the bedrock of Nigeria's national power grid. An excursion here will open the students to the process of power generation, transmission and distribution. Also, you can book a hotel in Niger State close to the dam ahead of your trip using a hotel booking site.
