About Owerri Zoo

Also known as Nekede Zoo, the Nekede zoological garden was established under the Ministry of Agriculture in 1976 and sits on 10 hectares of reserved forest. The zoo houses a large variety of animals like lions, pythons, gorillas, crocodiles, ostriches among other animals. The zoo was neglected by successive administrations but was revamped under the administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha after he provided the funds needed to upgrade the infrastructure and for the maintenance of the animals. Now, the owerri zoo is one of the fun places to have a hangout in Owerri.

This is a very safe location but guests are advised not to be too close to the animals.
