5 things everyone must do before checking out of a hotel.

Before checking out of a hotel, there are five things you must do. To most people, checking out of a hotel is no big issue as they only have to pack up their suitcases, order for a taxi to take them to the airport and walk through the front door. While some other people spend longer time packing up and getting set for checking out, to the extent that they have to be reminded that it is time to leave or pay for another day. Outlined below are some of the things you should do before checking out of any hotel.

i. Do a thorough check.

Before checking out of your hotel room, it is advisable to take time and look in every corner to make sure you are not leaving any of your belongings behind. Check under the bed, bed sheet, look in the closet and cupboards, open the drawers, check the bathroom, and look into the sink and bathtub. Most people who check out of their hotel rooms without checking well have ended up losing one valuable or the other. It is important that you check well before leaving because chances are that whatever you leave behind changes ownership as soon as someone else finds it.

ii. Check all the power outlets.

It is easy to forget that you didn’t unplug your laptop or phone charger after charging with it in the night. You wouldn’t want to get home or wherever you are heading to only to discover that you left your charger in the hotel room. Take a few minutes to make a quick check on all the sockets and outlets just to be double sure that you got all your electronic gadget charges safely packed in your suitcase.

iii. Grab your souvenir.

Taking your souvenir and everything you are allowed to remove from the room like toiletries, notepads, pens, and toiletry bags does not make you a cheap customer. Rather it is one way of keeping the memories of your stay at the hotel fresh. Moreover, those items were part of your hotel bills so you have the right to remove them if you so wish. But don’t take their towels and bathrobes except you want to be branded a petty thief.

iv. Check your bills.

It is always advisable to review your expenses while you were at the hotel. Sometimes people buy certain products and services such as snacks, Wi-Fi, webinars, etc. It is important that you review the bills the hotel gave you to make sure you were not overbilled or billed twice for the same products and services.

v. Don’t forget to tip your room keeper.

If you stay in the same hotel room for several days in a row, it is good to tip the room keepers who made sure you were comfortable all through your stay in the hotel room. Ensure to drop the tip in corners and spots where the particular room service personnel making the room that particular day sees and gets it. Sometimes you may not have had extra cash on you to tip the room keepers on a daily basis, it is always good to add up the tips and drop them before you check out. You can equally help the room keeper by getting the towels and bed sheets arranged near the door where they can easily pick them up.
