Overview of Finnair
Finnair was founded in 1923 and is now the largest airline in Finland, operating the majority of all domestic and international flights in Finland. The airline has major hubs in Helsinki Airport, Brussels Airport, and London Heathrow Airport. Finnair is the fifth oldest airline in the world and has no records of accidents or loss of aircraft since 1963. The Finnish government is a major shareholder of the airline, owning more than 55% of the shares. The head office is located in Tietotie 11, Helsinki Airport. Finnair Airline has been awarded the ?best European airline? on several occasions by different international bodies, the most recent one being the 2017 TTG annual Travel Awards. It is also a member of Oneworld alliance.
Finnair Travel Classes
Passengers can choose from any of Finnair travel classes depending on their needs, whether for business or pleasure.
Business Class
The flight class is available on all intercontinental flights. It features full-flat bed seats that give more room and privacy to work, eat, and relax. It also includes exquisite signature menus and a list of intercontinental beverages from top quality chefs in Finland. Passengers also have access to high-quality brand products. Business class passengers have access to priority check-in and boarding services, priority security, Finnair lounge, and extra baggage.
Economy Class
The economy cabin is a spacious area that features complimentary meals, snacks, and beverages. There is also a personal in-flight entertainment system available in every seat.

Travel Packages Offered By Finnair
Finnair offers a few unique travel packages to its customers when they subscribe to any of its loyalty programs or business friendly packages.
Finnair Plus
Finnair Plus is a frequent flyer program that allows its members to gain access to a range of benefits and rewards by earning points for using Finnair flights and services. Passengers can earn level and award points from scheduled flights with Finnair and its other oneworld alliance affiliate airlines. These points allow travellers to move up through the membership levels which are Basic tier, Silver tier, Gold tier, Platinum tier, Lifetime tier, and Junior tier.
Finnair Plus Basic
Once a passenger subscribes to the basic plus, they would become Basic members and the one-year tracking period starts. They then become eligible for members-only offers and allowed to earn tier points for moving up through the Finnair Plus membership levels, and award poins that can be used to redeem valuable points.
Finnair Plus Silver
This is for members who have earned a least 30,000 points or an equivalent of 20 flights since the beginning of their tracking period. Passengers are offered additional services like extra baggage, business class check-in, priority lane, lounge, advanced seat reservation, and tax-free shopping.
Finnair Plus Gold
The minimum number of points a passenger must have earned to be eligible for this membership tier is 80,000 points. Here, members are entitled to one extra baggage, a special baggage, business class check-in, priority lane, lounge, advanced seat reservation, tax-free shopping, free internet services, and travel class upgrades on European flights.
Finnair Plus Platinum
The minimum number of points a passenger must have earned to be eligible for this membership tier is 150,000 points or an equivalent of 76 scheduled flights from the time of subscription. Members are ultimately qualified for unique benefits like one extra baggage, a special baggage, business class check-in, priority lane, lounge, advanced seat reservation, tax-free shopping, free internet services, free drink and newspapers, and travel class upgrades on long-haul and European flights.
Finnair Corporate Program
The program is a corporate travel solution designed for organizations who want to cut down on their travel expenses. The companies can get discounts off ticket fares after registering, as well as options for last minute changes. There are three levels of membership in the corporate program and the higher an organization?s lever, the higher the discount they enjoy.
Special Services Offered By Finnair
Special Medical Services
In some cases, passengers with existing medical conditions are required to tender a medical clearance certificate. They are also required to notify the airline of their medical condition when they are booking tickets, 72 hours before departure. Following this, the airline takes it upon itself to take adequate precautionary measures with respect to the stated medical condition.
Disability Assistance
Before departure, passengers with certain disabilities must request for assistance when they are booking their tickets. The airline provides assistance for disabled passengers and passengers with reduced mobility at the airport. During the flight, these passengers will be seated by the windows, on seats with movable armrests for ease. After the flight, disabled passengers will be assisted to the next means of transportation.
Finnair Lounge
Finnair operates three lounges from the main hub in Helsinki, Finland. One is located in the Schengen area and two in the non-Schengen area. the lounges serve hot breakfasts from 6am to 10am, as well as a salad bar and hot soup service. The lounge also contains private shower suites and a kid?s playing area. it is available for free for Business class customers and Finnair Plus Platinum and Gold members.
Finnair Online Booking and Check In
Online Booking
Passengers can book flights online from any of the domestic or international destinations operated by Finnair via hotels.ng/flights.
Online Check-in
Passengers can check in online from their computer or a mobile device, and avoid the long queues in the process of doing so. Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure and the service is available 24 hours a day.
Online check in is available to all Finnair operated flights departing from Finland and most destinations abroad, and also when the journey includes a connecting flight. It also applies to charter flights departing from Finland. The service is not available for flights departing from Pisa, Dubrovnik, Split, Dalaman, Ljubljana, Tenerife North and Alanya (Gazipasa). Passengers should note that check-in for flights to the USA opens 24 hours before departure.
To check in online, passengers should log in to the service and follow the instructions on the website. All the information needed regarding what to passengers need to do after check-in and which documents they need to take with them to the airport is available on the platform.
Finnair Priority Boarding
Priority boarding services are available to members of the Finnair Plus Silver tier and other membership levels higher up the tier.
Flying With Children On Finnair
Children who are 12 years and older are allowed to travel alone on Finnair. Those between the ages of 5 and 11 years can travel within Finland with a an escort of at least 16 years of age, or preferably with a family member who is at least 12 years of age and on international flights with a family member of at least 16 years of age, or with an escort of at least 18 years of age. Children who do not meet any of these requirements are considered unaccompanied minors, and must therefore use the unaccompanied minor service.
To make sure that children are calm and occupied on long flight, Finnair provides baby baskets for infants not older than 6 months.
Flying With Pets On Finair
Finnair will transport pets either in the cabin or in the hold of the aircraft. This all depends on their weight and size. Passengers with pets need to contact the airline customer service for a prior approval about travelling with the pet.
Passengers should note that it is not possible for passengers to travel with their pets into destinations outside Finland including Great Britain, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, and Australia. It is also forbidden to travel with pets into Ireland from outside of EU.
Pets are not included in passengers? baggage allowance, so they will need to pay an additional fee for their transportation. Guide and duty dogs may be transported free of charge. Pets carried in the cabin cost 40 Euros for short haul flights, and 75 Euros for long haul flights. The cost of flying pets in the hold is 75 Euros for short-haul flights, and 300 Euros for long haul flights.
Finnair Cargo Delivery
Finnair Cargo operates all cargo services suitable for air transportation to direct Finnair destinations through other partners? flight network and also to other destinations around the world. The shipments are delivered from the airport of origin to the destination airport. Cargo can be flown as either First or Business, depending on transport needs.
The cargo service operates fast and secure animal transport services from outside Finland to Helsinki alone, and animal shipments are not allowed on domestic flights. Customers wanting to transport pets such as dogs and cats must obtain necessary documents for the animals, ensure compliance with IATA and Finnair regulations, and purchase suitable animal container among others.
Other special cargo delivered by the airline includes dangerous goods, perishables, valuables, vulnerable items, pharmaceuticals, seafood, and mail. Cargo products include First and Business cargo. The First is the cargo service for high priority shipments that need immediate delivery on Finnair?s direct routes to and from Helsinki, while Business is the cargo product for normal shipments to online and offline destinations.
Charges on cargo deliveries are dependent on the station of origin and final destination, quality of the goods, gross weight, measurements, and volume.
Finnair Terms and Check In Policy
Check in policy
Check-in times vary if the flight is operated a partner airline. Passengers can check in at the Helsinki Airport from the previous evening before departure between 6pm and 9:30pm. Check in at most of the other airports must be completed 45 minutes before departure except airports in Asia and North America where check in must be completed 1 hour before departure.
Restricted Items
For safety purposes, some items are not allowed on Finnair flights as part of carry-on baggage.
Alcohol may be transported as checked baggage but only a maximum allowance of 5 litres, while alcoholic beverages containing more than 70% of alcohol are prohibited.
Lithium batteries are restricted dangerous goods and can be only carried on board in small quantities when they are to be used for personal purposes. Gas containers are prohibited, regardless if it is full or empty.
Checked Baggage
All passengers are allowed to take at least one piece of checked baggage into the cabin and most Finnair tickets qualify passengers for at least one piece of checked baggage free of charge.
Carry-on Baggage
Passengers aboard all flights are allowed one piece of carry-on baggage with maximum dimensions of 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (22 in x 18 in x 10 in), one personal item such as a small handbag, a small laptop bag or a small backpack that must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger, and a maximum combined weight 8 kg (17.5 lb).
Extra Baggage
Passengers travelling with baggage that exceeds regular baggage allowance will have to pay additional costs for the extra baggage. The maximum amount of baggage is 10 pieces per person.
Special Baggage
Finnair allows passengers to transport musical instruments, sports equipment and other special baggage on Finnair flights either as a part of their regular baggage allowance or for an extra charge, depending on its size.
Finnair Refund Policy
Refunds depend on the type of ticket, if it is a flight ticket or travel extra. Passengers are required to fill a refund form for unused tickets, unused parts of a ticket, or chargeable travel extras. However, refund requests are only treated if the ticket was bought directly from Finnair.
