History of Fela Shrine

The shrine was put up in 1970 by the great Fela Kuti, as a place where political rebels alike could come and rub minds while listening to great provoking musical sounds from Fela and his musical entourage. Although the Fela Shrine was burnt down seven years later, it was later revived by his children; Femi and Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti and has been a hub for Nigerians and foreigners alike who have an ear good music to go to totally relax.

  • The shrine is open all day and sells delicious meals. However, if you are looking to catch it in full bloom, its best to visit after 7 pm. This is when the drums are rolled out and various musical performances are held
  • Femi Kuti, his son, hosts guests to a wonderful musical tirade on Thursdays, while Seun Kuti, the most approximate version of Fela, performs on Saturdays.
