They are: Requests for flexible working arrangements Community service leave Maximum weekly hours of work Parental leave and related entitlements Public holidays Long service leave Notice of termination and redundancy pay Provision of a Fair Work Information Statement Compassionate leave and family and domestic violence leave Annual leave The Fair Work Act 2009 protects employees against unlawful workplace discrimination which could arise as a result of race, color, age, religion etc. If an investigation shows that the employee has been affected by discrimination, the Fair Work Ombudsman may take enforcement action. Ensure that there are no marks or writings whatsoever on the pages. Having your passport is just the first out of many steps, you would find the rest of the steps to take for a USA student visa as a Nigerian below. Nigerian International Passport Requirements for a United States Student Visa An electronic application form called DS-160 should be filled and submitted online. If your passport includes more than one person, each of you must submit an application.A recent passport photograph, 5x5cm, taken on a white background showing your full face with a neutral expression. The passport should not be older than six months and should be taken in casual clothes. If you are below the age of 14 and older than 79, your biometrics (fingerprints) would be taken during the visa interview. You must already be admitted into your institution of choice before applying for this visa. After being admitted, your institution will issue an I-20 form which should be included in the documents taken to your visa interview. It is necessary that you book your interview in advance. When you do so, a letter would be issued which you must take along with you to the interview.Your application will not be processed without payments of necessary fees.Documents showing strong ties to Nigeria and your family would be necessary. This could be a marriage or birth certificate. Considering studying in Russia? You should read this! The United States issue two kinds of visa to prospective students and these are: F-1 VisaM-1 Visa F-1 Visa The F-1 visa is the most common type of student visa. It is issued for full-time programs in the United States. This visa allows the student to study at an approved college or university, private secondary school, or approved English language program. If you spend over 18 hours a week on your course, then this visa is for you. There is also the F-2 which is issued to your spouse or child travelling with you. It is called a dependent visa. Holders of this visa cannot engage in any form of employment but minors can study in public schools. In order to obtain an F-1 visa, your institution of choice must be part of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Secondary school students also must be in a SEVP-certified school. However, as a Secondary school student, you cannot apply to a public school unless you would be starting from the 9th grade in which case you would be allowed a maximum of 12 months at the school. Upon entry into the United States, the officer at the port would issue a Form I-94 which would state how long the student can stay in the US. This would be written as D/S (duration of study). The student would also be given a 60-day grace period to stay in the United States after the completion of the course. You can leave and re-enter the United States during the grace period. Note that if you are absent without leave from your course for up to five months, you would lose your student status and will have to re-apply for the visa. M-1 Visa This visa is issued to individuals who want to participate in non-academic learning in the United States. It is for vocational and technical training. The M-1 visa also has a dependent visa known as M-2 visa, however, unlike the F-2 visa, holders of the M-2 visa can attend public elementary and Secondary schools regardless of the grade level. Individuals with an M-1 visa can enroll in any form of training which is typically held in a community or junior college awarding associate degrees, trade, vocational or flight school. With this visa, you cannot work both on-campus and off-campus so you must have enough funds at the time of entry to last the duration of the training. M visa usually allows a maximum stay of one year which is only extendable due to medical reasons. The one year stay includes a 30-day grace period after the completion of the study. To obtain this visa, you must maintain 12 hours of study at a junior school or community college, 18 hours in a post-secondary vocational institution and 22 hours per week in a shop or lab-based curriculum. You cannot change your M status to an F status and neither can you apply for a transfer in the first six months of your course. Lastly, it is highly important to remember that first impression matters a lot so when going for your visa interview, dress in smart, neat clothing, avoid strong perfumes, excess jewelry and above all, be punctual. Appropriate interview dressing Visa Fees The standard fee for a United States of America visa is $160 regardless of the number of entries. Visa Processing Time It takes 5-15 working days to process a United States of America visa and could be longer if additional documents are required. A convincing application letter for a student visa

by Rebecca/November 05 10:11 AM Last updated on An application letter, also known as a letter of introduction is one that accompanies your application for a student visa and as the name implies, it is a way for you to introduce yourself to the consulate. Not all embassies require a letter of introduction since the information they are requesting will be part of the package of forms you?ll be required to fill out, where you document your financial status, purpose, list the ties to your country, etc. However, a letter of introduction does as the name implies, introduces the student fully. For the sake of those who would like to study abroad but are currently clueless, a student visa is a non-immigrant visa type issued to applicants whose primary purpose of visit to the country is the pursuit of education. You must first apply and be accepted by an institution of higher education that is recognized by the immigration department of that country before you will be able to proceed with the visa application.  Studying abroad requires detailed planning to say the least. Students are advised to plan their application process keeping in mind university deadlines. Students are required to appear for English eligibility tests pertaining to the university policy and also have required documents in place for the smooth processing of their application. Hence, students are always advised to apply 3-4 months in advance to avoid any last-minute rush. Candidates seeking financial aid, scholarships and education loans should add another couple of extra months to the process as these applications take more time.  A word processing program should be used in writing the letter of application, under no circumstances should you write your letter by hand. The letter should be formatted in block style, meaning that all information should be justified to the left, with no paragraph indents.  Your full name, mailing address, date, name of embassy official, their title, embassy, passport number, passport expiration date, notary public information are all details that should be justified to the left when writing your letter of application. When composing your application letter to the embassy, it is important that it is formatted properly as stated above, written in a professional tone, and be as short as possible. The more complete your application letter, the better your chances of obtaining a student visa. In order to do this, you must convince the consulate of several factors; Evidence of a permanent residence in the country of origin. You have the financial resources to cover your stay for as long as you intend to stay. You are an actual student, who will be attending a university or college in the country of choice.Once your studies are complete, you will be returning to your country of origin and will do so before your visa expires.Evidence of professional and family ties in your country. This includes bank account information, family, real estate and other assets, or job offer for when you return. Highlighted above are things that should be included in your application letter. Below is a more detailed content you should include in the main body of your letter. College or University Acceptance - You should state if your application has been approved by the school of your choice, as this is the first and most important thing that makes you eligible for a student visa application. Also, alert the consulate that you have attached documents to your letterIntroduction - Another name for the letter of application for a student visa is a letter of introduction. As such, it is very important that you introduce yourself in a very detailed and adequate manner. List any work experience you have in the field, and attach a letter from your employer.Purpose - Here, you would be expected to state the purpose for attending school. For example, career change, advancement in your career, updating professional skills. You should be able to demonstrate your knowledge of the current opportunities available for your profession and as well state how the education will benefit you in establishing a career in your country of origin.Purpose in choosing this particular school - Your letter should state why you chose the college or university you did, what the school will offer you, if applicable, list major companies that have hired students from the school and include any additional benefits the school of choice offers you.Financial Information - In your letter of application, list any fees paid to the institution and attach copies of documentation such as receipts to the letter.
