Dutse International Airport is located at 10km Northwest, off Dutse, Jigawa. It serves Dutse, the capital city of Jigawa State. Dutse is a city in northern Nigeria predominantly populated by the Hausa and Fulani tribe. Because of the availability of fertile land in the Dutse, its inhabitants are mostly farmers.
Dutse Airport was built by the past governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, in 2014. The first commercial flight at the airport was handled by Overland Airways on July 14, 2014. Commercial operations began fully at the airport on July 15, 2014. Also, Dutse airport is reputed as one of the beautiful airports in Africa because of its architectural design.
Since its completion, economic activities in the state have increased tremendously. Also, it has assisted in reducing excessive passenger traffic at Mallam Aminu Airport in Kano.
