Bayelsa Airport, also called Bayelsa Cargo Airport, is an international airport serving Yenogoa, the capital city of Bayelsa. It is located at Wilberforce Island, Amassama, Yenogoa. The airport was commissioned in 2012 for construction by Bayelsa state ex-governor Hon. Henry Dickson. The ex-governor credited the Alamieyeseigha?s past government for conceiving the international airport idea. Because of his great contributions, Hon. Henry Dickson renamed the Airport Road after Late Chief Alamieyeseigha, the first civilian governor of Bayelsa. On February 14, 2020, the airport was opened with an inaugural flight. The flight had Hon. Henry Dickson. Also, few members of his cabinet were on board. Another Air Peace flight from Lagos also landed at the airport on the same day. However, because of the incompletion of the airport perimeter fence, the NCAA refused to certify the airport. According to the acting Director of NCAA, Captain Abdullahi Sidi, the state airport will not receive accreditation until the perimeter fence is completed.
