There are lots of activities you can do while visiting Abuja and kayaking at Abuja National Stadium is at the top of that list. The kayaking lake is located at Kukwaba Lake, Chartered Farms, Package B, National Stadium Sports Grounds, Abuja. The National Stadium (currently known as Moshood Abiola National Stadium) is a multipurpose national sports stadium that serves as home to the Nigerian national football team (The Super Eagles), as well as a center for various cultural, religious and social events.

Kayaking at Abuja National Stadium

Kayaking is basically a water sport that involves the use of a kayak (watercraft) to move over water bodies. Kayaking is not only an enjoyable experience but also one that has a lot of health benefits like improving cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength. You can also enjoy basking under the sun, as well as having a cute view of the city gate and the stadium bowl.

To top off the whole experience, you should hang in a little to savor the beautiful scenery of the Abuja sunset and have a relaxing evening at a hotel close to the Abuja National Stadium.

Things to bring along

The kayaking arena is in a less-frequented area of the stadium, so it is advised that when visiting, you bring your own food, water, music, games and any other thing you would need to make your kayaking experience worthwhile.

Opening Hours &Cost

It costs as little as ?2,000 to go kayaking on the lake at the Abuja stadium on weekends and ?1,000 on weekdays. The Abuja National Stadium is opened for kayaking every day of the week including weekdays from the hours of 9:30 AM through 5:00 PM. The kayaking sessions will last for an hour irrespective of the price and the day of your visit.

Safety While Kayaking

Kayaking is generally a safe sport to try out. At the Abuja National Stadium, you are first given a small demonstration on how to paddle; forward movements, left and right turns, how to do a full turn and everything else to keep you afloat.

Secondly, you will be tightly strapped to your safety jacket which has a whistle attached as an extra safety measure to call the attention of the lifeguards. You don?t need prior swimming experience at all as you will be provided with a life jacket and you will be seated in your craft all through. Also, take note that at the midpoint within your craft, there is a storage pod for holding your camera, phone and any other device you came with so you don?t lose it in the water while taking memory defining pictures.
