To enter Guatemala you need a valid passport with at least six months validity remaining beyond your date of entry into the country. All visitors to Guatemala must carry a passport which must be valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of travel. If your passport is lost or stolen in Guatemala, you must obtain a new passport at the nearest embassy as soon as possible and present it together with a police report on the loss or theft to the Guatemalan Immigration Agency (Dirección de Migración) in order to obtain permission to depart Guatemala. There is no transit visa for Guatemala and visitors passing through the country must obtain a tourist visa if required. Applicants must be ready to submit proof of an accommodation arrangement for their entire stay in Guatemala. The Guatemala tourist visa is valid for 90 days. You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires. If you overstay your visa then you will be expected to pay a fine before leaving the country; this can only be paid at the Migration Directorate in Guatemala City. Applicants are also required to submit a proof of yellow fever vaccination.

Business travelers to Guatemala will need to provide an invitation letter from the Guatemalan company they will be visiting. This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of their trip. If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, a confirmation or invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required. If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel. Proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of stay (e.g. bank statement for 2 recent months) is required. Self-employed people may need to submit proof of business registration. You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa. It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company. Children under 18 years old travelling with a valid passport do not need special permission from their parents to enter or leave Guatemala. If travelling with any pet, a veterinarian health certificate, plus an import permit from the nearest Guatemalan embassy or consulate, should be submitted.
