About University of Lagos The University of Lagos fondly called Unilag was established on 22nd of October, 1962. About University of Benin The University of Benin fondly called ‘UNIBEN’ was founded primarily as an Institute of Technology in 1970 but was accorded the status of a full-fledged University by National Universities Commission (NUC) on 1st July 1971.
