Queen Yargoje, the first and only queen of Zamfara Kingdom, was a powerful ruler whose reign was characterised by peace and prosperity. During her forty-year reign (1310 - 1350), she moved the capital of Zamfara from Dutsi to Kuyambana because it was a strategically more defendable area. Also, Kuyambana was a thickly forested zone which lay at the confluence of two rivers and had very fertile soil. Her famous lamp – the Yargoje Lamp – that she used for council meetings is one of the prominent artifacts in the Sokoto State History Bureau Museum.Safety
