There’s a darker side of hotels we don’t want to think about when we hand over our credit card/cash at the front desk. So if you’re a hotel and you are still wondering what you can change about yourself in 2014, we’ve got a few resolutions for you to choose from.
**Reasonable Minibar Prices:** Of course we understand hotel managers spend thousands of naira on tax payment and maintaining their hotel but N1000 for a bottle of beer in some luxury hotels has us hoping that hotels really make a change when it comes to the minibar.
**Free WiFi at Luxury Hotels**: 5-Star hotels have done an excellent job with making WiFi a part of the hotel experience. Some Luxury hotels, however, are still nickel and diming their guests for this amenity and it’s clearly a money grab. WiFi is no longer a luxury. It is a requirement! And if you have to charge for it, the least you can do is make sure it is strong all over the building with enough infrastructure to support its use.
**The Ten Naira Toothbrushes**: Hey budget hotel, we know and appreciate the fact our rooms are super cheap but please don’t remind us by stacking our bathroom with low quality toiletries.
**Room-Temperature Rooms**: One of the very first things we do when we walk into hotel rooms is to turn up the thermostat. Actually, a lot of the times we turn it off completely. No air, no fan, nothing. Why do hotels always think colder is better? Are they trying to ice us out of the room so we go downstairs and spend more money on peppersoup at the restaurant?Keep Room Service: Some hotels might think room service is no longer a necessity but we completely disagree. That does not mean its okay for housekeeping staff to come banging at our door by 6am.Sloppy Housekeeping: We’ve heard horror stories of housekeepers who use guest toothbrushes to clean the toilets, Windex to “clean†the drinking cups and a toilet brush to scrub the tub. After all this nasty stuff we’ve mentioned that goes on in hotel rooms, we hope hotels hire a respectable housekeeping staff. No More Fake Promises: Before you start bragging about a famous artist’s designs in your hotel, make sure they aren’t fakes. And when hotels say they have a DSTV cable in their rooms, we want to be in charge of what we watch from the comforts of our bed. What would you like to see more of or less of from hotels in 2014? Tell us, and the hotels and hoteliers who read us, what you want!
