About The Nigeria Immigration Service
The Nigeria Immigration Service is a government organisation established to deal with all immigration issues within the country. Its functions also include issuing visas, passports and work permits. Its branch in Lagos is located at Alagbon Close, Off Ikoyi Road, Near Secretariat, Ikoyi.
History of Nigeria Immigration Service
The Nigeria Immigration Service was coined from the Nigeria Police Force in 1958 and it was known then as The Immigration Department. During the early days of the Immigration Department only the visa and business section were in operation. On August 1st, 1963, the Immigration department came into limelight and was formally established as an act of parliament. The use of ICT in the Service started in 1998 when the machine readable passport along with the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens card were introduced.
