The National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development was founded in 1987 under the Science and Technology Act of 1980 after the approval of the Federal government, the approval of the federal government was based on the approval of the pharmaceutical society of Nigeria. Financial contributions toward the commencement of the institute was made by the pharmaceutical society of Nigeria and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN).Safety
