The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria was established with the major aim of regulation and control of the Teaching Profession at all levels of the Nigerian Education System, both in the public and private sectors. The TRCN classifies periodically, members of the teaching profession according to their level of training and qualification. It also determines skills to be attained by persons seeking to become registered as teachers and raises those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit.

History of The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria was borne out of many years of campaigning and agitation by Nigerian teachers for the establishment of a regulatory agency to co-ordinate and manage the teaching profession. The  Decree 31 of 1993 was then enacted under the federal military government of the time. It was later revised and updated by Act CAP T3 of 2004 the statute under which it has been operating since.
