About Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited

Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited is the communications satellite operator in the country which has been charged with the management and operation of Nigerian Communications Satellite. Formed by the federal government to cater for the provision of Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) to its customers, the Nigerian satellite is designed to meet the needs of telecommunications, broadcasting, broadband, security and  other communications solutions.

History of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited

NIGCOMSAT was incorporated under the Federal ministry of communication in April 2006 and launched its first geostationary satelite NigComSat-1 into orbit in May 2007. It had a service life of 1 year and 6 months before it failed due to Solar Array Deployment Assembly (SADA) malfunction, and was de-orbited in November 2008. A similar satellite was procured named NigComSat-1R which was successfully launched in December 2011 at Xichang Satellite Launch Centre, South West China. This new satellite is expected to have a service life of about 15 years.
