The Nigerian Accident Investigation Bureau is responsible for the investigation of all civil aircraft incidents and accidents in Nigeria. After the Federal Civil Aviation Authority was created in 1989 and the Civil Aviation Department became the Department of Safety Services, accident investigation activities were also carved out and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB). The name was changed to Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau. The Bureau became an autonomous agency known as "Accident Investigation Bureau" through the Civil Aviation Act of 2006.Safety
