National Horticultural Research Institute conducts research into genetic improvement, production, processing, storage, utilization and marketing of fruits, vegetables, spices and ornamentals plants of both nutritional and economic importance.

History of National Horticultural Research Institute

National Horticultural Research Institute when it was established with the assistance of UNDP/FAO Project, was first called the National Fruit and Vegetable Research and Development Centre (NFVRDC). However, the Federal Government Agricultural Research Institutes Establishment Decree Order No. 35 of June 1975 changed it into the National Horticultural Research Institute along with other institutes and bodies governing agriculture. The Institute is under the coordination of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.
