History of The Nigerian Immigration Service

The NIS was formerly a part of the Nigerian Police Force and was extracted as department of its own in 1958,it was then called immigration department and was entrusted with the core immigration duties under the headship of the Chief Federal Immigration Office.The department inherited the immigration ordinance of 1958 for its operation,However on Agust 1st 1963, the department was formally established by an Act of Parliament, Cap I71, Laws of the Federation Nigeria.
