National Research Institute For Chemical Technology was established in 1988, Built by the federal government in 1988.
One of the Research Institutes under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, it is charged with providing innovative Research and Development in the processing and conversion of indigenous raw materials into valuable chemicals and chemical products for industrial application in the country.

The institute presently has four research departments involved in renewable energy research, catalysis, and treatment of industrial effluent waste. They are the Basic Research, Petrochemical and Allied, Industrial and Environmental Technology Department, and the Textile Technology Department. It has a chemical testing laboratory, a quality control laboratory, chemical and leather industry machinery, and equipment manufacturing facilities.
