Since the end of the civil war, which lasted 25 years, in 2009, Sri Lanka has become one of the country’s tourists look forward to visiting and this is reflected by the rapid increase in the number of tourists visiting the country year after year. In 2018, the country played host to over 2.3 million tourists and it has been estimated that the number of tourists visiting the country is going to increase for years to come.
 
On entry to Sri Lanka, tourists are required to declare foreign currency amounting to $10,000. If exiting with foreign currency of over $5,000, the full amount brought in or acquired in Sri Lanka must be declared. Do not mistreat Buddhist images and artifacts as this is a serious offense and you could be convicted for this.
 
Citizens of Singapore, Maldives and Seychelles are exempted from requiring a visa to gain entry to Sri Lanka.

This is the type of visa issued to persons intending to visit Sri Lanka for tourism purposes. All visitors to Sri Lanka must carry a valid passport. The first step of the process of securing a visa is downloading and filling the online application form. The visa is valid for 180 days from the date of application and permits two entries into the country. Your total stay is counted starting from the day you enter Sri Lanka. Three very important things you need before going to the embassy are: Your valid Nigerian passport. Proof of a valid round-trip ticket showing the port of entry into Sri Lanka. Proof you have funds to cover all your expenses during your stay.  Visa applicants intending to visit a friend or family need to submit an invitation letter from a family member or host living in Sri Lanka. This letter should clearly state the address and contact details of the host, as well as your relationship with them. Children under the age of 12 years are exempt from paying the visa application fee. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for Nigerians. You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires and present documents that show you have the intention to do so. This visa does not serve study purposes. You cannot be enrolled in any of the institutions of learning in the country.

This is the type of visa issued to Nigerians traveling to Sri Lanka for business purposes . The Sri Lanka business visa is valid for 180 days from the date of application and permits two entries into the country. You can sign contracts, partake in auctions and exhibitions and also speak at business-related events while on this visa. You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Sri Lankan company you will be visiting. This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip. If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, confirmation/invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required. If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel. Proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of stay (e.g. bank statement for 2 recent months) is required. To start your application, your passport needs to be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry to Sri Lanka. Self-employed people may need to submit proof of business registration. You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa. It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company. Proof of payment of visa application fee should be submitted . Overstaying your visa will attract a fine and possible detention and deportation. If you have overstayed your visa, you must report to the Department of Immigration & Emigration immediately.
