Saint Lucia

St Lucia is a country on the Caribbean island. It has a population of about 170,000. Majority of the population are Roman Catholics.

The capital city and largest port is famous for The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the largest church in the Caribbean and palm-lined Vigie beach. Near the harbour, you can enjoy duty-free shopping or visit the lively Castries market for a range of local products.

St Lucia has a warm and humid climate with two seasons, the wet season – June to November and the dry season, December to May. This period, December to May is the best time to visit.

Lightweight casual clothing is recommended as the climate is tropical. A light sweater or jacket is also recommended for cool evenings.

Road transport is the most popular means of transportation. Minibuses run frequently between popular places. Taxis are more comfortable and easier and you can hire through taxi companies or you can hail one on the street. You can also take water taxis to popular bays and beaches.

St. Lucians are friendly and lively people, and they celebrate their history and heritage with many festivals and events throughout the year, such as:

  • Independence Day: in honour of their independence from Great Britain
  • St. Lucia Jazz Festival: featuring international and local artists
  • Carnival: St. Lucia, like other Caribbean countries, celebrate carnival, a colourful celebration of St. Lucian way of life.
  • Atlantic Rally for Cruisers: a sailing competition

With a coastline along the Caribbean Sea, St. Lucia is a stunning island with some of the best waters for water sports. Scuba diving is especially popular. Sailing is also popular and you can charter a yacht and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean waters. If you’re tired of the water, take a short or long hike through the mountainous rainforest or enjoy a round of golf at one of the golf courses.

Some other places worth exploring in St. Lucia are:
  • The Pitons: twin peaks that are on the UNESCO World Heritage site list. These scenic peaks are St. Lucia’s gem. You can hike the trail to the top of the peak and enjoy the beautiful natural landscape along the way.
  • La Soufriere sulphur springs: it features a drive-in volcano of bubbling pools of muddy, sulphuric water. Here, you can also have a soothing hot water bath in the healing sulphur water of Soufriere Hot Springs.
  • Pigeon Island National Park: features ruins of St Lucia’s former military fort. It is also home to two beaches.
  • Diamond Botanical Gardens: home to a diverse range of flora, and the Diamond Waterfall.
  • Tet Paul Nature Trail: located close to the Pitons peak, this trail features breath-taking views of the island.

There is a wide range of suitable and comfortable accommodation in St. Lucia to ensure you enjoy a great stay on this beautiful island.
