Romania

Romania is divided into three regions: Transylvania, Moldova, and Wallachia. Transylvania is the most famous region in Romania, it is a forested region which features the Carpathian Mountain range. It is also famous for the Bran Castle, which is associated with the legend of Dracula.

Romania’s capital is Bucharest, and it is home to many iconic landmarks including the huge Palatul Parlamentului government building, and the Romanian Athenaeum, a concert hall.

Romanian is the official language spoken by majority of the population.

The road network in Romania is extensive, however, there is often heavy traffic on main routes. For long distance travel, or when travelling between major cities, air travel is recommended. Buses are available but they are slower compared with Taxis. You can hire taxis from taxi companies. If you’re not in a hurry, use trains, they are slower but you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the landscape.

Most of the regions in Romania have a warm temperate climate, with cold winters and warm summers, the mountainous regions, however, have a colder weather as the altitude increases. There is often abundant snowfall, especially in the mountain region. This is great for enjoying winter sports such as skiing.

From art festivals to festivals that celebrate the country’s wine, Romania has numerous festivals and events that showcase the countries beauty and heritage. Some of them are:

  • The Traditional Crafts Fair in Bucharest
  • Sighisoara Festival of Medieval Arts and Crafts
  • The Maidens' Fair (Targul de Fete): a matchmaking festival
  • Romania's Folk Art Festival
  • Wine Making Festival

Romania has a diverse landscape that offers a wide range of activities. You can go on a hiking trip through Romania’s mountain range. There are also beaches and resorts where you can enjoy activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, and fishing.

Some other interesting places worth visiting are:
  • Crisana’s Apuseni Mountains: where you can enjoy hikes in the summer and winter sports in winter.
  • Maramures: home to the traditional wooden churches, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
