The Laos tourist visa allows Nigerians to travel to Laos for tourism or family visit. The Laos tourist visa is valid for 30 days. The 30-day tourist visa can be extended an additional 90 days at a cost of 20,000K per day, but only in major cities such as Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Pakse and Savannakhet. A visa does not guarantee entry into Laos; it is at th e immigration officers’ discretion to allow entry into the country. Applicants are advised to start processing their visa well in advance of their travel — sometimes the processing time could take up to one month. Travelers must not overstay their visa. Doing this will attract a heavy fine.  It costs US$10 for each day overstayed, paid at the immigration checkpoint on departure. The tourist visa fee varies depending on the passport of origin, it usually ranges between with US$30 and US$45. It's cheaper to pay in US dollars than the local currency. No other foreign currencies are accepted. The importation of local currency is not permitted. 2,500 USD or equivalent in foreign currency must be declared. If you are traveling with a child, your departure may be facilitated if you have documentary evidence of your relationship, such as the child’s birth certificate, and permission for the child’s travel from the parent(s) or legal guardian not present. Customs inspections at ports of entry are lax, as long as you're not bringing in more than a moderate amount of luggage. You're not supposed to enter the country with more than 500 cigarettes or 1L of distilled spirits. All the usual prohibitions on drugs, weapons and pornography apply.

Nigerians traveling to Laos for business need to apply for a business visa. This visa is valid for 30 days. You can extend your 30-day visa up to an additional 60 days for a fee of US$2 per day through the Department of Immigration in Vientiane. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for Nigerians. No other immunizations are required for Laos at this time. Though it is unlikely that you will be asked to provide proof, applicants are advised to bring last few bank statements, tax returns or salary slips. If you overstay your visa, you’ll have to pay US$10 a day on exit for every day over. Adults travelling alone with children should be aware that they may be required to produce documentary evidence of parental responsibility before entering the country. It is not usually needed, but you should come along with a veterinary certificate in case it is asked. You may need to provide an invitation letter from the Laos company you will be visiting. This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip. If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel. A letter of financial support or your bank statement from the last 6 months is needed. Self employed people will submit proof of business registration. You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa. It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company. Applicants are advised to ensure their applications are accompanied by all relevant supporting documents before submission. Incorrect statements may result in delay or refusal of your visa application, or if not discovered until after visa has been issued, may result in revocation.
