Nigerians can apply for the Indian tourist visa if they plan to visit India for tourism purposes. Asides recreation, sight seeing, casual visits to meet friends and relatives, no other activities are permissible on a tourist visa. This visa is valid for six month and is not extendable. The following persons are not eligible to apply for a tourist visa and must apply for the Entry Visa instead: Person of Indian origin. Spouse and children of a person of Indian origin. Spouse and dependent family members of a foreign national coming to India on a long-term visa. Oral polio vaccination/IPV only for residents of seven polio-affected countries including Nigeria is a mandatory requirement for visiting India. The possession of satellite phones is prohibited in India. If you overstay your Indian visa, or otherwise violate Indian visa regulations, you may require clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs in order to leave the country. You are urged to obey such curfews and travel restrictions and to avoid demonstrations and rallies as they have the potential for violence. Trekking expeditions should be limited to routes identified for this purpose by local authorities. Use only registered trekking agencies, porters, and guides, suspend trekking after dark, camp at designated camping places, and travel in groups rather than individually or with one or two companions. India has the third largest rail network in the world, and train travel in India generally is safe. You should exercise care when hiring transportation and/or guides and use only well-known travel agents to book trips. If your passport is stolen, you should immediately report the theft or loss to the police in the location where your passport was stolen. A FIR is required by the Indian government in order for you to obtain an exit visa to leave India if the lost passport contained your Indian visa

This visa is for foreigners visiting India for the sole purpose of seeking medical treatment in hospitals/treatment centres in India. Up to two attendants who are blood relatives are allowed to accompany the applicant to India. But they are required to obtain a separate me dical a ttendant v isas . The validity will be the same as the me dical v isa of the principal. The treatment sought should be significant in nature; not all ailments qualify for a medical visa. List of ailments mostly considered for a medical visa include (but are not limited to): neurosurgery , ophthalmic disorders , heart-related problems and organ transplantation . The initial duration of the visa is up to a year or the period of the treatment, whichever is less. The visa will be valid for a maximum of 3 entries during the one year. The visa duration starts on the day of issuance, and not on the day of entry into India. Applicants are required to provide proof of relationship with those they intend to travel with.

The Indian work visa is granted to Nigerians who are employees or paid interns of an Indian company or persons traveling to India for volunteer work with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). Spouse and dependent family members accompanying the applicant must apply for an entry visa. Their visa duration will terminate according to the visa duration of the principal visa holder. Before a work visa is issued, the applicant must be a highly skilled and/or qualified professional being engaged or appointed by a company or organization or industry or undertaking in India. Foreign sportsmen who are given a contract for a specified period by the Indian clubs/organizations are also eligible for a work visa. Applicants are required to provide a cover letter. The name of the sponsoring employer/organization must be included in this letter. A foreign company/organization that does not yet have any Project office/subsidiary/joint venture/branch office in India cannot sponsor a foreign national/employee of a foreign company for a work visa. However, if the Indian company/organization has awarded a contract for execution of a project to a foreign company that does not have any base in India, such foreign company can sponsor the employee for work visa. An Indian work visa is valid for a year, irrespective of the duration of the contract. Further extensions of up to 5 years may be obtained from MHA/FRRO in the concerned state in India.

The Indian business visa is applicable to Nigerians who would like to make a business-related trip to India. This visa is valid for one year, and it is a multiple-entry visa. The visa duration starts on the day of issuance, and not on the day of entry into India. Foreigners are required to obtain a residence permit. An applicant going for employment in projects/contract in India needs to apply for an employment visa, and not a business visa. The Indian business visa applicant must receive the visa prior to applying for an accompanying spouse and dependent family members. Foreign trainees of multinational companies/corporate houses coming for in-house training in India will also need a Business Visa. As well as foreign students sponsored by AIESEC for internship on project based work in companies/industries. Before a business visa is granted, the applicant must present proof of financial standing and assurance he has expertise in the field of the intended business. The business visa must be issued from the country of origin, or from the country of domicile of the foreigner provided the period of permanent residence of the applicant in that particular country is more than two years.

The Indian student visa is given to bona fide Nigerians who wish to pursue regular studies at a recognized institution in India. India’s higher education system is highly centralized and undergoing large changes since its inception in 1947. Largely based upon the British system of education, educational policy is ever-developing. Foreigners who do not wish to go on to tertiary education, can enroll at privately-owned vocational schools that specialize in just one or only a few courses. Almost every university in India has accommodation facilities for all its students. International students can also book their accommodation after being admitted to their desired course or University.
