Guinea Bissau
Bissau, officially known as Guinea Bissau is a small country in West Africa with Senegal to its north and Republic of Guinea to its south and east. Its capital and chief administrative centre is Bissau.
Guinea Bissau towns still feature ancient colonial architecture; aftermaths of their colonization by the Portuguese. The scenery in the country is primarily one of lush greenery and cashew farms scattered about its plains.
Bissau is warm all year round with very little weather fluctuations and two prominent seasons. The country is in its rainy season from June to September/October and tends to experience drought from December to April. It is therefore best to dress lightly in Bissau for the most part.
Guinea Bissau has a multifaceted ethnic arrangement. The major ethnicities in Bissau are the Fula and Mandinka-speaking people. There are also the Balanta and Papel people and the Manjaco and Mancanha people. Each of these ethnicities is markedly distinct from the other. All in all, Bissau has about 18 indigenous languages. The country is a secular country with a good number of Christians, Muslims, and Traditional worshipers.
Bissau Guinean cuisine generally features foods such as rice, millet, soups and stews, yams, cassava, tomato, sweet potatoes, onions, grilled oysters, and a lot more.
Bissau, though not the richest or most politically stable African nation promises visitors an authentic, unadulterated African experience with quite a number of intriguing sights up its sleeve.
Some fascinating tourist locations to be visited in Bissau are:
- Museum of African Artifacts: This is a museum showcasing authentic, splendid African art and hand crafts worth viewing.
