About Burundi

Burundi is a country of some 10.11 million people known for its mountainous terrain, abundance of tea and coffee plantations, and for being home to the world’s largest Nile crocodile, Gustave.

General Requirements for Burundi Visa
  • A current, signed passport. Visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the original passport is required.
  • Two completed visa applications. Original signature required. Applications should be printed single-sided and signed in blue or black ink only.
  • Two (2) identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself.
  • A computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as an e-confirmation or online booking). Note, if traveling via private charter the charters manifest should suffice.
  • An original copy of an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever.
  • A letter from a hotel in Burundi confirming the name(s) of the guest(s) and the dates of the reservation. 
  • The letter MUST be printed on hotel letterhead and signed by a hotel agent.

Eligibility

  • This is the type of visa issued to persons visiting Burundi for tourism purposes.
  • You can also visit family and friends and attend festivals while on this visa.
  • All visitors to Burundi must carry a valid passport.
  • The Consulate of Burundi requires an official business letter to support your application.
  • Applicants seeking this visa need to submit an invitation letter from a family member or host living in Burundi.
  • This letter should clearly state the address and contact details of the host, as well as the applicant’s relationship with them.
  •  During the visa application, you will need to provide proof of sufficient funds to last the duration of your stay.
  • Proof of accommodation or hotel reservation is also required.
  • The Burundian tourist visa is valid for 90 days.
  • You are advised to exit the country before your visa expires.
  • Applicants are also required to submit a proof of yellow fever vaccination.

Eligibility

  • This is the type of visa issued to Nigerians traveling to Burundi for business purposes.
  • You will need to provide an invitation letter from the Burundian company you will be visiting.
  • This letter will also contain their detailed address, accompanied with the date and actual purpose of your trip.
  • If the intention is to attend a meeting or seminar, a confirmation or invitation from the conference organizer/institution is required.
  • If you are employed, you will have to present a certificate from your employer stating or allowing your business travel.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the costs of stay (e.g. bank statement for 2 recent months) is required.
  • Self-employed people may need to submit proof of business registration.
  • You cannot be gainfully employed while you are in the country with this visa.
  • It must be made clear whether your trip will be sponsored by the employer or the local company.
