Medical Visa from Nigeria to Netherlands

  • A Schengen Medical Visa allows Nigerians to enter a Schengen-area country in order to receive medical treatment in a Schengen medical institution.
  • You can only stay in the Schengen area (and receive the treatment) for up to 90 days with the Schengen medical treatment visa.
  • Applicants coming to the Netherlands for medical treatment must apply for a residence permit. This application costs € 1033.
  • A letter from your doctor/medical institution in Nigeria confirming that you need medical treatment in a Schengen country. The letter must also state your medical history and the medical treatment you will receive in the specific Schengen country.
  • Official document of acceptance from the Schengen medical institution confirming they can provide you with the medical treatment you need.
  • Proof of accommodation in said Schengen medical institution.
  • Proof of payment for medical treatment.
  • If the ministry of health in your home country will cover the costs of your treatment, they must write an official letter declaring such intent.
  • Proof the patient can cope with any additional medical costs that may come up.
  • Proof of correspondence between the doctor in your home country and the one in the Schengen area.
  • If you are employed, a letter from your employer is required. Your employer should state in the letter that he is aware of your leave. Your position and how long you have been employed in the company should be clearly stated.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate they have sufficient funds to cover their entire medical expenses while in the Netherlands.
  • Minors must ensure they possess the original copy of their birth certificate. If they are traveling alone or with one of their parents, a document of consent which is signed by both parents of the minor should be provided.
  • Travelers on a medical visa are not allowed to work while they are in the country.
  • You are expected to leave the country at the end of your treatment.
  • Visa holders are not allowed to take up permanent residence in the country, but temporary residence is allowed.
  • The applicant has to sign a medical declaration. By signing this declaration, the applicant consents to be involved in any medical research, if necessary.
  • A letter to the Medical Advice Bureau in the Netherlands is needed. This letter must include the following:
    • The nature of the illness.
    • Why treatment elsewhere will be inappropriate.
    • If you are capable of financing the treatment.
