For you to be eligible for a medical visa, the hospital/treatment center you want to seek medical treatment in has to be approved and recognized by The Government of India. Two blood relatives are allowed to accompany the patient although they have to get a separate visa from the patient's own.
Documents needed for the application process for an Indian medical visa
Here are the documents needed to apply for an Indian medical visa:
- A passport valid for 6 months after arrival into India.
- Two recent 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport-sized photographs taken on blue background.
- A photocopy of the applicant's passport.
- Proof of residential address in the applicant's origin country which shows that the applicant has a place to return to after the medical treatment.
- Medical documents of the treatments that are going to be done on the patient- the treatment will not be commenced without these.
- The passport copy of attendant(s) accompanying the patient (applicant).
- Proof of relationship with the accompanying person(s).
- Recommendations or references for specialized treatment on the basis of medical checkup/treatment from a reputable health institution in the applicant's origin country.
Note: The treatment should be significant in nature not all ailments qualify for a medical visa.

Not all medical conditions will result to the applicant being granted a medical visa. Such conditions will grant applicants passage into India include:

- Organ transplant.
- Joint replacement.
- Heart therapy.
