You Will Never Leave Nigeria if You Keep Doing These

You ever wonder how many Nigerians are applying for foreign visas at embassy offices at any given moment? You wouldn't be too far off the mark if your guess was "a lot". To get an idea, in 2014, The U.S. Mission in Nigeria reported that no fewer than 220,000 Nigerians applied for non-immigrant visas.

That's a lot of people. And that's the stat for those looking to go to the United States alone. Many of them get their applications denied.

Nigerians have turned visa applications into something monumental such that it is a thing all on its own. It is not uncommon to see people soliciting for special prayers for their visa applications. Some will even seek untoward means to facilitate the entire process in a bid to increase their odds. It all seems like something shrouded in mystery, when you look at it. It is kind of a big deal.

It shouldn't so tedious though. Unless one is totally unqualified, it shouldn't that big of a deal. After all, there are other Nigerians who do not have such experiences - they simply apply for a visa and get it without hassles.

It doesn't matter what you do, you'll keep getting denied if you keep repeating the same mistakes:

1. Making a Hefty Deposit in Your Account Prior to Your Application:

This is perhaps the most common fail in the book. Someone's account suspiciously appreciates by a humongous deposit made just weeks before the application is made. No matter how much they want to be assured that you have enough to take care of yourself in their country, they will do their homework on the account - monitor the history - so they don't get a wool thrown over their eyes. Salary accounts, or accounts that show activity and frequent (not necessarily huge) deposits stand a better chance than some account with a suspicious one-off deposit.

Applying at The Nick of Time

Because the process will often take time, as the embassy will need to process your documents submitted at the application, it is better to always apply ahead of time. This is to allow for enough room to sort out any complications that may arise.

Having Never Traveled Elsewhere

This sounds a bit counter-intuitive, I suppose. But the American embassy will very likely deny your visa application if you have never been elsewhere before. So, unless you really need to up and leave for something legit like school or work (which will make the process easy, even), you might want to try visiting other countries first. America is just suspicious of first time visitors. Don't take it personally.

Tendering False Documents

If you have ever been denied visa on account of tendering false documents in the past, you might as well stop trying. Countries like the United States of America and the United Kingdom will place a ban (10 years or more) on any such candidate, sometimes unbeknownst to them. Many people getting consistently denied are victims of this, as their ban period is not over yet - if it isn't for life, that is. Just try other countries, please.
