Christmas is fast approaching and we are quietly making plans on how best we can celebrate it. Some of us have already gotten our visas to travel to London, Dubai, Kenya, Paris and many other beautiful cities around the world, forgetting that there is no place like Nigeria when it comes to spending our Christmas. You have not seen it all as a Nigerian if you have spent all your Christmas in the country. The reason why it may seem as if you are bored about staying here for your Christmas may be that you have overlooked so many things and places in the country.

The Family Ties

We are all busy people that we may not even text some of our loved ones all through the year. This flaw is easily forgiven during Christmas when we see everyone come home from different parts of the country. The love and bound spread and we forget our difference. Christmas is always a time of family reunion; we meet distant relatives, make new friends and have great time with one another. This cannot happen elsewhere in the world if we leave Nigeria.

The Gifts

Santa Claus may be in developed countries, of course we know that there is no one Santa Claus anywhere in the world because our own Santa Claus come in form of our friends, family and loved ones in Nigeria. We get so much from others that we do not necessarily need a fake Santa Claus to give us sweets or biscuits.

The Free Food/Drinks

Literally, there is no hungry person in Nigeria during Christmas. Food and drink is everywhere. Even if you do not have anything to eat, a visit to a friend or enemy’s house will provide you with free food and drink. This is the time Nigerians are often extravagant in what they eat and drink. At the end of the day, there is excess for everyone.

The Village Adventures

Don’t try missing the village adventure during the festive period. No matter how backward your village may look, Christmas makes it lively. This is one of those moments that coming to the village mean a lot to most Nigerians. People want to impress others with their new homes, cars and clothes. Parties are thrown here and there and we are often indulged in a little wildness.

The Dramas

The Christmas dramas cannot end in the Nigeria. Everyone seems to be buying without stopping, the roads are filled like markets, streets are lit, people get drunk and there are so many things that you cannot stop laughing at.
