Where To Find Mystical Places In Nigeria

There are places in Nigeria where you must be cautious of what to do because of the nature of the place. Sometimes, kids may not want to be around these places because some things around there can have frightening structures or backstories. We bet you have heard of or been to shrines or religious places you are careful to not desecrate. We took out the time to search some mystical places many of you may not know exist in the country.

Bilikisu Sungbo Shrine

There’s a shrine called the Bilikisu Sungbo Shrine in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.  This is a religious ground that has a myth attached to it. It is believed that the biblical Queen of Sheba is the same person as Bilikisu Sungbo. You can see faithfuls gather here during their annual festivals to offer prayers at the tomb shrine. It is said that the spirit of Bilikisu Sungbo can grant prayers and desires. For a lot of you, it might be your first time hearing of this, but it is a very popular place in the Western part of the country.

Bible She, Araya

It was August 1914 – many years before Nigeria embraced civilization fully, that some people in Ayaya, Delta State said they found a copy of the Holy Bible that fell from heaven. Today, this spot has become a holy place where thousands of pilgrims come to worship. The locals are better at telling this story, and when you visit, you are sure to hear lots more about this place.

Verekete Shrine, Badagry

This is a famous shrine in Badagry. Rumour has it that West African explorer, Richard Lander was brought to this shrine when he was accused of espionage. The shrine priest sentencing Lander gave him some concoction to drink to test his innocence. When he did not die, he was freed because only the guilty died from such concoction. You can come here and see what this shrine looks like.

Osun Shrine

Osun Shrine is unpopular because it is where the goddess of fertility, Oshun resides. Every year, thousands of faithfuls come here to worship for seven days.  It is located in the dense forest in Osun State.  This is not just any type of shrine that one would come and mess around at. The respect it accords is enough to frighten looters away. The environment is filled with a lot of cultural displays and even artifacts. You shouldn’t be surprised when you see tourists from developed countries coming here to witness the yearly festival.
