Niger State is one of the oldest states in country. It is close to Abuja and, in a sense, has tapped into the panache and prestige of the capital city. This has made the State to be a choice place for business executives, tourists and foreigners.  Niger State is the home of Nigeria’s Hydroelectric power source which comes from the Shiroro and Kainji dams. We have made a list of some of the places you’d like to check out whenever you visit the State.

Gurara Waterfalls

Guarara Waterfalls is an inundating waterfall that would spoil you with its calmness and stunning views.  It looks animating here as there are adventurous spots around the water fall. It cascades majestically from a height of 50meters and lands on a ground to form a lovely water flow. You can come here between April and November if you want to have the best of this place. It was in 1745 that this waterfall was discovered and since then, it has become a paradise for a lot of tourists.

Kainji National Park

This is a lovely place for sightseeing. You cannot beat the surprises that Kainji National Park has for its visitors. You are going to see some animals like the Roan antelopes, baboons, hippopotamus, monkeys, hartebeest and others. It is around here that you are going to see the famous Kainji dam.

Zuma Rock

In 1999, the misconception that Zuma Rock is in Abuja was propagated further when the Central Bank of Nigeria erroneously put it as such on the defunct N100 bill. The correction was subsequently implemented as it was pointed out that Niger State is home to the rock. Zuma Rock stands out majestically on Daura road and it makes for an exciting location to visit.

The City of Minna

Minna is a grand city to live in. Lots of people come into Minna during weekends and on holidays to be with their families. This is because a number of them work outside of Minna, mostly in Abuja and other surrounding cities. The cost of living here is way more affordable than it is in Abuja, and this sort of accounts for the migration cycle that occurs here.

There are a lot of standard hotels in Niger State which are affordable as well. The State is devoid of the buzz and rowdiness associated with mega cities. You will learn to appreciate simplicity after having been around the people for a while. Food is equally affordable especially when you visit their various markets.
