There is a myriad of monuments and landmarks in Nigeria that you can’t help but talk about when describing the country in depth. These landmarks and monuments are man made while the others are nature’s handiwork. We have listed some of them below:

The Taiwo Olowo’s Monument

You will find the Taiwo Olowo’s Monument at Broad Street , Lagos. This is a prominent monument that houses the remains of Chief Daniel Conrad Taiwo. This man came to Lagos in 1848, where he started as an apprentice and ended up as an important Nigerian politician. It was said that this tomb was built after melting a lot of copper pennies.

Tafawa Balewa Square

Everyone knows where this square is located in Lagos. It is where a lot of official functions are held in the state. Indeed, it is a very busy place when it comes to events and celebrations. It is here that you will find some statues and memorials in the city. It was named after the first prime minister of Nigeria, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa.

Aso Rock And Caves

You will find this rock standing out an imposing figure as you drive to the capital city. There are caves around this rock that makes it an exciting place to visit. Prior permission is required to gain entrance to visit. The National Assembly, Supreme Court and the Presidential Complex are all built around the rock.

The Gurara Falls

If you want to see the dramatic nature of this falls, come around July to September when the rainy season is on and the tide is high. The place will still leave you in wonder nonetheless if you visit at another time. The natural flora here is captivating and the landscape offer hiking and picnicking opportunities. It is located in Niger State.

Benin Moat

benin moetThe Benin Moat is located in Benin City. The natives called it ‘Iya’ and it has become the largest earthwork that was created by man on earth. This place was created in the 13th century. This place forms a portion of the ancient wall that was built to protect the people of the city. It is a staggering 3,200 km in its length.

Zuma Rock

Zuma Rock is located close to the capital city and it is one of the country’s intimidating landscapes. You would be stunned to see this iconic natural landscape which many refer to as the ‘Gateway to Abuja’
