## **At the front desk:**
Be firm but polite when making your hotel requests; hotel’s staff will be much more willing to help you, even bend over backwards for you if you talk to and treat them kindly. That extra tip you give out might go a long way for you. Tell the front desk that you want to see the room prior to checking in. Be sure to address any concerns before settling in.
If you are at the hotel for any kind of special occasion and you haven’t mentioned it, don’t feel foolish telling staff at the front desk it’s your anniversary, birthday, make-up date, whatever! By so doing they will help you pick the perfect hotel room for your occasion.

 * Looking for quiet?*

  1. Book a room midway along a hallway. This is generally the quietest part of the hotel.
2. Avoid rooms facing the hotel’s pool. The pools can be late-night gathering places.
3. Request a room at the back of a low-rise hotel. They are generally quieter (especially if they’re away from the parking lot). Even if the view is poor, the peace is worth it.
4. Getting a room at least two or three levels above banquet rooms, bars or other public spaces if the hotel has them. You’d be surprised how many floors a pulsating and thumping bass beat can penetrate.
5. Hang the “do not disturb” sign on the outside doorknob. This is especially important if you’re planning to sleep in. Some housekeepers start their service at 8 a.m. or earlier. If your room doesn’t have a “do not disturb” sign, request one from the front desk.
