Things to do in Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt is one of the most popular cities in Nigeria, and rightfully so. Regardless of what route you entered into the city from, either by air from the Port Harcourt International Airport, by road from any of the six surrounding states or by water, Port Harcourt is a place of wonder and excitement. Visiting Port Harcourt is a memory you should always cherish and here are some ways to make it just so.

Eat bole and fish

The Port Harcourt delicacy, known far and abroad is bole and fish. Bole is roasted African plantain, roasted to a dark brown over open air braziers with barbecued fish eaten with a red palm oil sauce made of peppers, tomatoes and onions and a super-secret spice known only to the sellers but ultimately containing different amounts of awesomeness. Bole and fish is not sold in eateries but on the roadside in small shaded kiosks. Often, the Bole is supplemented with yams and sweet potatoes also roasted and ugba leaves, cucumbers, cabbages and lettuce for variety.

Visit Port Harcourt mall

The Port Harcourt mall is located on Azikiwe Street in Port Harcourt, very close to the Government House. Within are several fashion stores, electronic stores, office supplies and food stores and eateries. There is also a movie theatre within the mall known as FIlmhouse cinemas with movies shown at an affordable price of N500, and a 9-D cinema hall where themed rides are also shown at affordable prices. At the ground floor of the mall is the massive Spar Supermarket, an all-you-can-buy supermarket with items ranging from household appliances to food provisions, all-weather gear, electronic gadgets, and more.

Relax at the club or in a lounge

GRA phase 2 in Pot Harcourt plays host to the city’s version of a red light district. Several clubs dot the area from King Perekule street to Sani Abacha Link road. Some of the clubs and lounges in Port Harcourt are Casablanca nightclub, Cosmo Lounge, Beer barn, Cubana Lounge and Event centre and so many others. Variety spots like Cheers bar and Tropicana events centre host live band performances which are exciting and interesting. You could also play at the Aristohouse casino on Sani Abacha link road, a regular haunt of most expatriates living in the city. There are karaoke bars to be found in GRA phase 2 such as Kusina bar and De Office.
