Things Nigerians Would Love About Kano

Have you been to the ancient city of Kano?  A lot of Nigerians are scared to visit the northern part of the country because of the instability. Kano can be one of the loveliest places you can visit in Nigeria with its numerous sites of attractions. It is the country’s second largest city and is one the country’s commerce centers. This city is named after Aminu Kano. One major thing that you would notice about this city is the way that its streets are designed.

What are the things that make Kano a special city? We can look into things that make a lot of Nigerians love Kano.

The Kano City Wall

You may have heard about this famous wall that is 14 kilometers long. A lot has been said of this great wall. It was built in the 14th century to secure the city.  After visiting this wall, you can visit the Emir’s Palace that depicts the historical and political significance of the city in Nigeria. The palace was beautifully built over five hundred years ago.

Dubar Festival

The people of Kano understand what it means to celebrate their ancient festival called ‘Hawa Sallah’ in Hausa. We are yet to see another part of the country regards horses like the northern people. During this festival, horses are colourfully displayed in their pageantry.

The Kurmi Market

The Kurmi market is African’s oldest market. When thinking of major commercial areas in the country, this market is definitely worth the mention. There is virtually nothing you won’t be able to buy here. A lot of people come from different parts of the country to buy goods here.

Falgore Game Reserve

The Falgore Game Reserve would surprise you because it is one of the reserves in the country where you can see a lot of animals like the red fronted gazelle, warthog, spotted hyena, hartebeest, red flanked duiker, bushbuck, bush baby, etc.

The Minjibir Weaving Centre

Minjibir Weaving Centre is where a lot of people would want to visit when they are in Kano. It is where the ancient weaving industry is located. You can buy clothes here, and locals can tell you about the center’s history.

Kano still commands respect with the way that it has transformed over the years. You would surely appreciate this great city that is now home of millions of Nigerians.
