Oguta Lake and Golf Resort was established 40 years ago by the colonial rulers as their exclusive getaway spot. Also known as the lake of treasure, the lake is just a 45 minutes drive from Owerri, Imo State capital, and 27 kilometres from the ever-busy Owerri-Onitsha highway.
Every year, this tourist spot in Owerri attracts thousands of local and foreign visitors looking for places to spend their holiday in Nigeria. The lake is neither salty nor harbours crocodiles hence excellent for swimming and sight seeing. The spectacular confluence of the Blue Lake and Urashi River also in Oguta is a sight to behold. The Oguta Lake is blue in colour while Urashi is muddy in outlook but they never mix up. Any attempt of scooping water from one to the other will manifest a gradual separation of both.
Presently the Lake Resort has one of the largest holiday complex in Nigeria which includes, A Golf Course with 18 standard international holes, Relic of war constructed by the defunct Biafran Navy during Civic war, Natural confluence of Oguta Lake and Urashi River, Cruise boat services, Golf Club Bar House/ Oguta Lake Motel for refreshment, a luxury hotel for lodging and feeding as well as a recreation park. If you like diving and water-motor race, then this is the place for you.
After a day of fun, don’t forget to try out the tasty Oguta catfish pepper soup.
