Rare Tourist Destinations in Nigeria

Not every tourist location would leave you asking a lot of questions. Some tourist sites are simple to understand, while some need a little clarification about artifacts, tombs and lots more. Have you ever gone to a destination where everything seems so out of place or rare? In Nigeria, you can visit a lot of these places. Some of them may actually be closer than you think.

Opa Oranmiyan

You may be asking what that means if you aren’t Yoruba. This is the Oranmiyan Staff – owned by the third Ooni of Ife, it is reputed to have spikes with nail piercings from the sides and stands over eighteen feet tall. The Opa Oranmiyan is made of stone and has become a rare tourist attraction in Osun state. It was a weapon used against the enemies.

You walk into the Ife Museum in Osun, and all you see are archaeological artifacts. They come in different sizes and shapes, and each tell you different stories.  It has become a national monument under the National Monuments management. There are tour guides to tell you how each of these artifacts came to be placed in this museum. 

Usman Dan Fodio Tomb

Usman Dan Fodio was a famous leader in the Northern part of the country. He was so influential that his name has been etched in different parts of the country, making his tomb in Sokoto a major tourist destination. He was a prolific Jihadist who spread Islam across the country and beyond. Muslims are always seen around here.

Biu Plateau

Do not expect to meet normal weather in this part of Borno state. Biu Plateau has suddenly become a haven for tourists looking for temperate weather conditions. There are a lot of attractions that come with this place. Here, you will have that blissful moment you always desired away from the bustling life of a city.  

Gashaka/Gumpti Game Reserves

Gashaka/Gumpti Game Reserves are in Taraba State. It is one of the rarest places you can visit in Africa. There are lots of plants and animals to see, and a wide range of birds for bird watching. If you love the great outdoors and hiking, you are going to love it here.
