"Hospitality means primarily the creation of free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend instead of an enemy. Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place. It is not to bring men and women over to our side, but to offer freedom not disturbed by dividing lines." - Henri J.M. Nouwen

Chongai refers to indigenes of Southern Kaduna State. A people with a big heart, The Chongai people are predominantly farmers and hunters. The land is so fertile that it can be considered as the “Food Basket of the North” as Benue is to Nigeria. Southern Kaduna has the potentials to earn substantial revenue from its rich cultural heritage, diverse annual festivals and beautiful sceneries. Its people are a complete definition of hospitality.

"Hospitality exists when you believe that the other person is on your side. " - Danny Meyer.

The Matsirga Waterfall

The Matsirga Waterfall

The legendary Matsirga waterfall popularly called River Wonderful is situated at Madakiya close to Kafachan, about 227 kilometers South of Kaduna metropolis. It takes it source from the springs on the Kogoro Hills that cascade from four different natural funnels and drops 30 meters into a gorge that has been supported by beautiful rocks.

The cool fresh breeze around the area could awaken sleeping beauty, trust me. A view of the rainbow-like mist which appears and disappears mysteriously is epic. The locals of the area believe there is a mystery behind it, but science has proven it to be mere reflections of sunlight against water droplets. River wonderful is a tourist site to behold. A resort known as Madakiya heritage resort is being developed by a private investor just within the fall, to serve as a relaxation spot which will expose visitors and tourist to the relaxing and refreshing scenery of the waterfall.

A personal experience in the 90s took me to that moment where I could visualize Simba, Timon and Pumba at the water fall.

Yeah Lion king!! This cartoon is epic and just never gets old. I can watch it a thousand times over an anime. Don’t get me wrong though I love anime's too. Let’s not digress, back to God’s gift of nature to humanity. River wonderful is really a site to visit. It proximity to the Kagoro hills and NOK ancient civilization museum offers you relaxation, adventure and learning.

Kajuru castle

The word castle takes me back to the era of Kings and Queens, royalties who dwell in houses that could cover an entire village with very high stony walls. The Kajuru castle is also in Southern Kaduna and one of my best sites. A wedding held here will be heavenly.

The castle spans over 360 square meters with mesmeric and exciting architectural work. The castle is a rare structure and a must see whenever in Kaduna. Come on, this is Camelot in Kaduna, haha!

The castle can comfortably shelter as much as 12 guests at a time. It also has 4 dungeon-like bedrooms, a master bedroom, a kitchen as well as a number of concealed rooms and several towers with wavy edged walls. Furthermore, it has a beautiful and magnificent unstained swimming pool to add to your leisure.

Fairy tale has it that, the castle has crocodiles in the pit protecting the castle gate and to gain access to the castle you must get a permit from the castle witch who also has a dragon. Don't seat there wondering if I'm saying the truth or not. You have to go to the castle to find out.

NOK Culture

Your stay in Southern Kaduna won’t be complete without learning a little about the rich NOK culture which was discovered in 1928 in Jaba Local Government Area of Southern Kaduna. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest and renowned cultures in the world. Bernard Fagg a British Archaeologist in 1943 identified with this rich culture and started collecting the NOK Terracotta heads.

Scientific evaluation on the terracotta heads suggested that the sculptures were created around 500 BC though new findings suggests that they may have been made earlier. A visit to the NOK civilization museum will expose you to more details about this rich culture. There is no doubt that when you talk about notable tourist attractions in the country and Africa at large, Southern Kaduna deserves more than just a mention.
