Precautions To Take When Visiting Lagos, Nigeria For The First Time

Written by Felaku Otani on Quora

Pre-Arrival
It is generally recommended that you are vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid and Yellow Fever. For completeness, you can also make sure you are covered on Cholera, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal Disease, Rabies and Tuberculosis. Most of the above you hopefully have from when you were much younger / if you do trips to other exotic countries especially in Asia. [You should also consider getting a Yellow Card before you travel]

You should carry a certificate / documentation to show that you have the necessary vaccinations - I use a small yellow passbook (they have asked me at border a number of times).

I would also suggest choosing the appropriate chemoprophylactic regimen to prevent malaria. You should consult your doctor to discuss your options.

Post-Arrival
I think you try to avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellent or covering your arms & legs when going out especially in the evening. Not all bites mean you will get Malaria but it is helpful to be prepared.
