JOS, PLATEAU – According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a lion in Jos has escaped from the city’s Wildlife Park on Wednesday and is currently still on the loose.

Mr John Doy, acting GM of the Plateau Tourism Board said that the lion made a break for it “at about 8 a.m. while it was being fed”.

The lion, which has been confined to that cage since 1972, “ slipped through the gate of the cage when it was opened for its routine feeding”.

“The animal is still within the vicinity of the Park but our fear is that the Park is not fenced.

“We are struggling to recapture it, but we want members of the public to be vigilant,” said Doy.

Meanwhile the NSCDC says it is aware of the lion’s escape, but the park hasn’t made a proper report to the NSCDC.
