At entry into the Nsukka township, one is not only greeted by the biggest motor park in the university community but one also alights at the general bus terminus before proceeding to other parts of the town. The general terminus is strangely called Peace Park and it is owned by Peace Mass Transit, a privately owned transport service.

The buzz of activities at Peace Park begins as early as 5.00 am, especially for those going on inter-state journeys up till about 5.00 pm when PMT ticketers must have closed shop. Buses from diverse zones of the country keep trooping in to drop-off passengers till the night falls depending on how long their travelling took. Well, sitting is not encouraged, as you are either expected to wait for whomever you are expecting or you take a seat in the bus that takes you to your destination. There’s always a rush hour syndrome in this Park; everyone seems to be impatient.

So for a normal journey, after procuring travel ticket at the vending point from the ticketers, usually from windows, carved out of the 2- storey building, and which are inaccessible from the outside, one proceeds to a row of designated buses which quickly fills up and then board. A guesstimate of both inbound and outbound passengers for the 12-hour most active duration alone should be in the precincts of 10, 368 passengers.

Another common activity which takes place in the bus park is both the formal and informal courier activities going on. Despite Peace Mass Transit running their own insured courier service, bus drivers obtain and deliver parcels/packages on behalf of their clients from one location to the other without the management having to necessarily know about it.

However, whether at entry or exit from this Park, rest assured hawkers selling interesting things would bring to your notice and buying pleasure either things you need to take along to loved ones or eatables and delicacies to quench your thirst and hunger.

So next time your food is about to delay you for a timed journey or your closet is without gifts for your loved ones, anytime you pass by/through Nsukka, rest assured Peace Mass Transit Bus Park has loads of chewables to either keep your stomach satisfied or get loved one’s mouths occupied.
